Under the bonnet sits a powerful V8, bold and proud, with a Holley 4-barrel carburettor at the heart of the fuel system. And that carburettor came to us for a complete overhaul.
Why a Holley 4-barrel calls for specialist work
A 4-barrel carburettor is a sophisticated system rather than a simple mixer: primary and secondary throttle butterflies, a power valve system, an accelerator pump, multiple jet circuits and precise float control.
On this Holley we saw the typical wear points: dried-out gaskets, slight distortion in the body, wear on the throttle shafts and dirty internal passages.
The complete approach, done properly
With projects like this we go well beyond a quick clean. A car with Duesenberg presence deserves a carburettor that is technically just as impressive as its looks.
What did we do?
- Complete disassembly down to the last screw.
- Vapour blasting of all components.
- Ultrasonic cleaning of all components.
- Checking and replacing all gaskets and diaphragms.
- Overhaul of the accelerator pump.
- A new power valve.
- Checking and correcting the float height.
- Inspection and, where needed, correction of the throttle shaft play, with PTFE bushes fitted in the carburettor bodies.
- Set to its baseline settings and fully reassembled to specification.

After a proper overhaul, a 4-barrel does exactly what it was built for: a crisp cold start, immediate throttle response and a smooth transition when the secondary barrels open.
A 4-barrel should do more than deliver fuel; it has to work with the character of the engine. That takes experience.
