How does a carburettor overhaul work?
During an overhaul we strip the carburettor completely, clean every part ultrasonically, replace worn parts with original or A-quality parts, rebuild it with care and set it up exactly to the factory specification. Your engine runs smoothly, reliably and efficiently again. Request a free quote →
What is ultrasonic cleaning?
Ultrasonic cleaning uses high-frequency sound waves in a cleaning fluid. They reach into the smallest passages and jets where no brush can go. That is exactly where the dirt sits that causes most symptoms, which is why it is so important for a good overhaul.
Can I really follow my overhaul live?
Yes. You receive a personal link to your Revisio page, where you see what happens at every step, with photos straight from the workbench: arrival, disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, rebuild and final inspection. You receive updates throughout the overhaul, so you are watching along at the bench.
Recognising symptoms
How do I know if my carburettor needs an overhaul?
Common signs: hard starting, a rough idle, stuttering when accelerating, high fuel consumption, black smoke, a strong petrol smell or a visible fuel leak. One or more of these often points to dirt or wear inside the carburettor. Try the free symptom check →
My vehicle is hard to start, is that the carburettor?
Often, yes. Hard starting is frequently caused by a blocked or poorly working choke or cold-start circuit, an incorrect float level or dirty jets. After an overhaul and proper setting up it fires up again the way it should.
My engine has a rough idle, what does that mean?
A rough idle, or one that sits too high or too low, usually comes from dirty idle jets or settings that have drifted. A clean and overhaul usually sorts it out, after which we set the idle exactly right.
My vehicle stutters or hesitates when accelerating
Stuttering when you open the throttle often points to a blocked progression circuit, a worn accelerator pump or dirty jets, so the mixture is briefly off. An overhaul with ultrasonic cleaning and the right setup usually cures it.
High fuel consumption or black smoke, is the carburettor the cause?
Usually, yes. A mixture that is too rich (too much petrol) through wear, an incorrect float level or dirt causes high consumption and black smoke. An overhaul restores the correct air-fuel ratio, which saves petrol and protects your engine.

I smell petrol or see a leak, what should I do?
Have this checked straight away, it is a fire risk. A strong petrol smell, a leak or an overflowing float chamber often comes from a sticking float needle or hardened gaskets. Have it seen to promptly: we check the carburettor quickly and fix it properly.

My classic has been in storage a long time, does it need an overhaul?
Often, yes. Old petrol hardens into a gum-like deposit that blocks jets and passages, and gaskets dry out. After a long lay-up an overhaul is usually the quickest route back to reliable driving.

Vehicles & brands
Do you overhaul motorcycle and boat carburettors too?
Yes, we cover cars, motorcycles and boats. From Weber, Solex, Stromberg, Pierburg, Zenith and S.U. to Mikuni and Keihin: chances are we know your carburettor and have overhauled it dozens of times before.
Do you also set up or synchronise the carburettor?
Yes. Every overhaul is set up exactly to the original factory specification. Running a complete set of carburettors? Then we synchronise them so they work together perfectly.
Fuel & parts
Can I run E10 petrol in my classic?
E10 contains 10% ethanol, which can attack older rubber, cork and gasket materials and attracts moisture. For classic cars and motorcycles we recommend E5 (or an ethanol-free fuel) and possibly an additive. During an overhaul we can fit ethanol-resistant parts where possible.
What if parts are no longer available?
We source original or equivalent A-quality parts. Some parts we make or re-bush ourselves. If a part really cannot be sourced or made, we always discuss it with you first before we continue. You know where you stand at all times.
